Now here are some photos of my rug and furnture that I have now...
Everything still looks pretty much the same....there is no real decor in the room because I don't want anything to get broken and just haven't had the time. Plus I didn't know about being thrifty and all these great DIY projects I've learned from reading blogs! (Which has inspired me) I do have more in the room now than in these photos because remember these photos are 3 years old, but it gives you a idea of what I'm working with.
Ok so other than the hardwood floor and ceiling fan (Those I'm not changing)
Here is the breakdown of what I need to figure out
#1: Paint Color for the walls
#2: Couch
#3: Buffet Table
#4: End Tables (We don't really need a coffee table)
#5: Other misc. decor
My vision is a beautiful creamy off-white walls with a brown leather couch and a buffet/dresser painted a purdy aqua blue with a HUGE ORB mirror above it. All tied together with ORB,Blue,and Heirloom white splashes around the room. I'm not sure how that will all look, but I'm hoping I can pull it off! I'm also open to ANY ideas you can throw my way! We have a pretty big living room to fill so I may also add a bench by the front door with some storage baskets underneath.

Sounds like you are on the right track! You might try some curtains with the white and aqua color scheme throw a bit more color in. On another note, there is a great cleaning system at Lowe's for hardwood floors! I use it regularly, it makes your floors shiny and new! It is called Bona. You can get a kit that has the mop, washable mop pad, and cleaner. I highly recommend it!
ReplyDeleteI like your ideas and think your current space is pretty nice too! I thought maybe you could pull an accent color out of the rug (red?), then paint your current set of tables. Blue is a lot fresher and if you like it, go with it! You could get some pretty fabric and frame it with thrift store frames as some decorations that can't get broken! Or a two-tone paint job with blue above and white/cream below as a board and batten look to bring more light into the space. Good luck!

ReplyDeleteI would say you're right on with the paint color for the walls. It sounds like you'd like to lighten and freshen things up in there and I think you'll be surprised at how light the new paint will make EVERYTHING in the room feel, including your furniture. To add ORB in simple ways, you can spray your heating vent (we did that) or take apart your fan and the metal accents of that. Since ORB is not much more than a sparkly-grayish black, painting your coffee tables (only if you don't like them) black would add a nice crisp touch and make the wood of your floors stand out. Also, adding neutral curtains with an ORB rod would add a nice touch.
After you do that, you'll have a clean slate for colors to play and then I'd think about accessorizing and what colors you like. You might find that you still like the colors of the rug and artwork (which match GREAT!) and add in some pillows with the colors from there and some from the walls.

Forgot to add, it's a really nice space! And you're not alone with not having stuff on the walls. We're almost a year into being here and I'm STILL trying to figure out what to do and have a ton of blank walls crying out to me.
